世界の⼈々はこのコロナ時代をどう⽣き抜いているのでしょうか？今回は、アメリカ合衆国メイン州にあるコルビー⼤学のサラ・ダフ教授にお話を伺いました。コロナ禍の中で、世界史的視点から「⾷」をとらえるという授業を教えることになったダフ教授。そこでダフ教授と学⽣達は何を学んだのでしょうか。パンデミックによって、様々な変化が⾝の回りに押し寄せ、改めて「フード」と向き合うことになった、そういう体験談をお伝えします！
How are people around the world navigating through COVID-19 challenges? For this issue, I am introducing Professor Sarah Duff and her course on food history from global perspectives, which she offered at Colby College in Maine, USA. Through exploring her experience and that of her students, you can see that the sudden rise of infection numbers around the globe, especially in the US in the spring of 2020, brought drastic changes to their campus life and made them rethink "food." How did Professor Duff and her students survive through their difficulties? What did their own experiences teach them?

1. コルビー大学のダフ先生を紹介します！
Introducing Professor Duff at Colby College
ダフ教授はロンドン⼤学で歴史学の博⼠号を取得しました。コルビー⼤学で教鞭を取られる前は、プリンストン⾼等研究所との共同プロジェクトに参加したり、パリにある社会科学⾼等研究院やスウェーデンのウプサラにある Swedish Collegiumなどで活動をされ、積極的に研究・教育に携わってこられました。研究内容は、１９〜２０世紀の南アフリカの⼦供の歴史やセクシュアリティに関する教育などです。多くの研究論⽂を執筆され、２０１５年には『変わりゆくケープ植⺠地の⼦供達―1860〜1895年におけるオランダ改⾰派教会福⾳主義と「幼年期」の変化について』（Palgrave Macmillan, 2015）という研究書を出版されました。
Professor Duff earned a PhD in History at the University of London. Before becoming a faculty member of Colby College, she worked on various projects and did research at different institutions, including the Summer Programme in Social Science, an initiative run jointly by the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, the LʼÉcole des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris, and the Swedish Collegium in Uppsala. In addition to many academic journal articles, she published Changing Childhoods in the Cape Colony: Dutch Reformed Church Evangelicalism and Colonial Childhood, 1860-1895 (Palgrave Macmillan) in 2015.

はじめまして！私は、サラ・ダフと申します。アメリカ合衆国の北東部、メイン州の⽥舎にある⼩さな４年制リベラルアーツ・カレッジで教えています。２０２０年3 ⽉の中旬、新型コロナウイルス感染拡⼤を防ぐため、その他教育機関と同様に私の⼤学も急きょ閉鎖されることになりました。
How do you do! Iʼm Sarah Duff. Iʼm teaching at Colby College, a small liberal arts college in rural Maine, in the northeastern United States. In the middle of March, like many other schools in the US and elsewhere, Colby closed the campus in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
